BuckleUp for iPhone, effective October 1, 2026

BuckleUp is a seatbelt-reminder app for iPhone. It has no account, no server and no analytics, and it collects nothing about you: what it knows stays on your iPhone. The only things that leave the phone go to Apple: a street-name lookup, described under Location, and in-app purchases, described below.

What the app uses

  • Location — to notice when you start driving (from GPS speed) and to learn where you park, so that driving away from a parking spot can start a reminder. Your location is used on the phone as it arrives and isn't kept, except for your parking spots: BuckleUp keeps up to 20 of them on your iPhone, and they're deleted when you delete the app. To name a parking spot after its street, BuckleUp uses Apple's geocoding service, which is built into iOS: that sends the spot's position to Apple, under Apple's Privacy Policy. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.
  • Motion & Fitness — to tell the difference between walking and riding in a vehicle. Used on the phone only.
  • Bluetooth audio route — to notice when your car's stereo connects. The app sees the name of connected audio devices, keeps that list on your phone so you can choose which ones are cars, and never transmits it.
  • Microphone — to record your own alarm sound, if you choose My recording in Settings › Alarm › Sound. BuckleUp only listens while you're recording, for up to 5 seconds, and the recording stays on your iPhone; it's never uploaded. iOS also requires this permission for the app to force the alarm to the iPhone's own speaker while a car is connected over Bluetooth; nothing is recorded for that. You can deny it and choose "Car audio" instead.
  • Notifications — to show the reminder banner.
  • In-app purchase — if you buy Unlock All Settings, Apple handles the purchase under its own terms. We don't receive your name, Apple Account or payment details; the app only asks the App Store whether the unlock has been bought.

What we collect

Nothing. BuckleUp has no account, no sign-in, no server, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party software development kits. Apart from the street-name lookup and purchases above, both handled by Apple, the app sends nothing over the network. Your parking spots, device list, recording, settings and activity log are stored only on your device and are deleted when you delete the app.

If you email us from the app — Send feedback, or Mail log to support — it opens a message in your mail app, and nothing is sent unless you send it. Send feedback can include your iPhone model, iOS version and the app's settings, if you leave that switched on. Mail log to support attaches the app's activity log: what it detected and did, with times, including speeds and the names of your parking spots and Bluetooth devices. You can read the log in the app before you send it.

Children

BuckleUp is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone.
